Backyard House
After raising a family and living in the same home for nearly four decades, our clients commissioned us to design a new home to age-in-place. Backyard House, a 3,700 SF new build, was sited in the rear yard of their existing home, on a double-deep lot that gained street frontage when a cul-de-sac was added.
Essential spaces for the clients are limited to the ground floor, including a bedroom and bathroom suite with adjacent den, while landscaped areas extend living outside front and back.
A second-story extends perpendicular to the street adding a pair of bedroom and bath suites flanking a reading room that overlooks a green roof shielded by trees.
