6 Detroit is a flagship salon on Woodward Avenue in Downtown Detroit. Conceived as a distinctly social experience designed to focus and amplify the sacred relationship between hairdresser and client.
6 Salon is conceived as a distinctly social experience designed to focus and amplify the relationship between hairdresser and client with the experience distilled into the custom designed ceiling-suspended stainless steel workstation with integrated lighting and power.
The layout is configured to connect the styling area to passersbys on Woodward Avenue. Upon entry, a glass vestibule gives a brief preview of the salon, before transitioning into a passageway which screens the activity while introducing the bustling sounds of the salon. Passing the original cast-iron building columns (ca. 1880), and a mural of stylist hands in motion leads to reception, positioned at the rear of the salon’s public spaces. Upon checking in, clients are now set at the opposite end of where they began, looking through the styling area, and back out onto the city street.
